🪴 Holiday spa for plants – when is it worth giving them... reset
Share
Vacation. You dream of a drink with a palm tree, and your monstera… of a drop of water. While you're packing your bags, your plants are starting to pray for a miracle. But don't worry – you don't have to choose between exploring Tuscany and your monstera's life. You can combine them!
Invite your plants on a green vacation —a home spa. Below, you'll find plant-based care rituals that will nurture their leaves, roots, and positive atmosphere—even when you're not there.
🛁 Step one: detox and peeling (i.e. watering and inspection)
Before you go, treat yourself to a spa day:
– Remove dry leaves – do not let the plants carry a dead past.
– Check the soil – if too dry, give them a good sip.
– Check the roots and bottoms of pots – sometimes unwanted tenants hide there (see: fungi, brr).
– Water them, but do not force them – let them have a supply, but without drowning them!
💧 Step Two: Home Irrigation Systems
Plants don't have a clock, but they certainly feel a lack of moisture. Fortunately, we have a few tricks:
1.
Upside down bottle
A good old classic: fill the bottle with water, stick it in the ground with the neck down – and voilà! It slowly waters itself.
2.
Hydrogel balls
Like little spa capsules. They absorb water and release it slowly.
3.
A string and a bowl of water
Home irrigation: Dip one end of a cotton string in a bowl of water and the other end in the soil. It works like a magic drip.
4.
Pots with a double bottom
This is a plant-based version of "self-care mode on." Water in the lower reservoir, the plant absorbs as much as it wants.
🌬️ Step three: microclimate is key
Plants don't like change – especially not changes like drought and heat.
– Group them together – they'll create their own humid atmosphere. A sort of green survival collective.
– Move away from the windowsill – direct sun is a disaster for plants. Partial shade is better.
– Cover the windows with curtains – let them have light, but with SPF 30.
– Water and pebble bases – a classic moisturizing technique.
🪴 Step Four: Less is More
If you know you're going away for a long time, don't overdo it (literally and figuratively):
– Don’t fertilize just before leaving – it’s like taking an energy drink at 11 p.m.
– Don't repot the plant the day before – they need stability, not revolution.
– Don’t experiment – if you’ve never used hydrogel, this is not the time to test it.
🧠 Plan B: A friend with a waterer
Do you have a trusted neighbor? Or a mom who waters everything green? Give them instructions (short ones!) and ask them to:
– they watered only when the soil was dry
– they didn’t move the plants “because it’s nicer”
– they did not water the cacti “in advance”
You can leave them notes or… organize a green instructional tour . A sort of "open house for ferns."
✨ Bonus: Green relaxation for you
Once you're all set, sit down with a cup of tea and watch your plants. They'll be fine. Seriously. What about you? You're on vacation now, so relax instead of scrolling through "how to save a plant with brown tips."
When you return, you'll find yourself looking greener and in better shape. Or a leaf down – but out of love, not dehydration 😄
🌿 Summary? Here you go:
✅ Water wisely
✅ Take care of the microclimate
✅ Place away from the oven called the sun
✅ Use an irrigation system or ask a neighbor
✅ Rest without guilt
Your plants will survive this. In fact, they might even emerge stronger.
